What the coverage question means

Pre-existing-condition language often determines whether a later claim is eligible. Symptoms can matter even when a final diagnosis comes later.

The current sample policy—not the marketing summary—controls how a claim is handled.

Policy language to verify

  • Check definition of pre-existing condition.
  • Check lookback or medical-record review approach.
  • Check curable versus chronic language.
  • Check bilateral or related-condition wording.
  • Check symptoms during waiting periods.
  • Check written carrier explanation.

Compare with a sample vet bill

Use one realistic scenario and run it through two policies. Separate the exam fee, diagnostics, medication, procedure, and follow-up charges, then apply eligibility, deductible, reimbursement, and limits.

This exposes differences that a monthly premium comparison can hide.

Save the evidence

  • Waiting-period disclosure
  • Any state endorsement
